ASP 15 XLS RPM?
« on: May 24, 2021, 12:57:08 PM »
I have an ASP .15 XLS broken in on 10% spec fuel. Standard Sport Goodyear venturi with ST NVA
On an APC 6.5x5.5 prop I get 13,800RPM.  Both head shims removed.

QUESTION for those that know....
"How would you rate this RPM?"

Very LOW for a 15.

If you are interested in speed, prop it down for at least 17,000, if not higher.

If this is the blue head 15, it should turn over 19,000 with an APC 6.5 x 5.0 on a 1/4" Sport Goodyear venturi on 10% nitro. And don't automatically assume the best performance will be with no shims. Try it with zero, one and two shims. However, the wrong amount of shims will NOT cost over 5000 rpm (unless the piston is actually hitting the head, maybe).

Thank You Bill!
This is the answer I was seeking.  19,000 on a stock setup I have some work to do.......

Has your engine been taken apart? For it to be that far off the mark, something has to be seriously wrong.

New never run. Just removed the 2 head shims.  Added the .250" venturi and a .156 dia ST NVA.  Running on 10% nitro with 22% blend lubricant.  I have 12oz thru it in 2oz runs with cool down in between.
