STREAK 2X
« on: March 19, 2019, 08:32:05 PM »
This is a CAD designed laser cut kit of a twice scale Flite Streak. Most of you are aware of the beautiful twice size Flite Streak that Dan Banjock built and flies. This is NOT a copy of Dan’s airplane. It is NOT a twice scale copy of the Brodak Flite Streak. This is a twice scale airplane based on the Aldrich Flite Streak. The external shapes are twice size Aldrich Flite Streak. The wing construction does not use a glued-up “V” leading edge. The ribs are NACA 0018 with a modified nose radius. The wing is 3.35” thick. Due to the availability and price of 4” wide balsa sheet the ribs are cut from 1/8” lite ply. The fuselage has a ½” balsa core with 1/8” balsa skins and 1/8 aircraft ply doublers. The engine mounts are Ύ” square hard Maple, there is plenty of meat to accommodate large engines.  The wing is 1591 square inches. The airplane is for .90 to 1.20 engines. The kit DOES NOT contain any control system hardware. The CAD plans have templates of all parts full size. The kits are $315.00 plus Priority Mail shipping of 8 pounds from Zip Code 60449. Full size .pdf files of the plan-parts sheets are available for $5.00 a set emailed to you

Do you have plans for a safety belt to the handle in case of a broken line?  Dan's plane requires a throttle too.  He says it probably would break the lines if he could fly it full bore without it pulling him off his feet.

I would recommend that any C/L airplane over 1000 square inches be flown with throttle capability. Trimming and prop selection can help to keep line tension within reason, but a throttle will insure the pilot can slow the airplane down before he gets in trouble from too much line tension. My largest kit has 2053 square inches of wing area. The 2X airplanes are over 1500 square inches. The Area 51 saucer is over 1000 square inches.
