MOCKINGBIRD II SS Rat
« on: July 26, 2019, 12:18:06 PM »
This is a laser cut kit of Bill Bischoff’s  “Mockingbird II” Super Slow Rat Racer. This airplane was 2nd in SS Rat at the 2019 NATS. It was 3 seconds slower than the original Mockingbird for a 100 lap race. The two airplanes used different engines. They will have an engine swap to see how the times compare with the “other” engine. The airplane has 316.4 square inches of wing area, the wing is 1 1/32 thick. The wingspan is 33”. The Mockingbird II differs from the Mockingbird in that the wing has a laminar flow airfoil. The Bellcrank is located in front of the spar. The wheel location makes for smoother landings. The laser cut kit includes all the laser cut wood parts, the 1/8 X 1 Aluminum for the landing gear, a 4mm screw and nuts for the axle, the sheet and strip wood for the airplane. The plans are CAD plans with all parts shown full size. The kit does not contain any control system hardware. The kits sell for $134.60 plus Priority Mail shipping from 60449.

After further testing it has been determined that the Mockingbird II is slightly faster than the original, is slightly better in the wind than the original, and the gear location gives good landings.
So, the "improvements" incorporated into the Mockingbird II actually are improvements.
