I've used Polar Gray (both SIG and Brodak) in the past with a little white mixed in for the primer coats and was wondering what else I could use (doing a dope finish) that I can get at the local paint supply and not have to mail order?
Thanks,
James

James,
Well, I usually make my own filler/primer coat. Some white, a touch of black (to make gray) and filler (either zinc sterate or talc) and clear dope. Then a blocking coat - the color of the block coat depends on what I using for a base color. Sometimes silver, sometimes gray, sometimes gold. It depends.

I use a ready made commerically avaliable white acylic based primer ..

Hi James,
Are you talking "primer/filler" or "blocking coat"? I have used Duplicolor spray can lacquer gray filler/primer all the time under dope. Sparky uses primer in spray cans from NAPA (gets it by the case). I have used several different PPG and DuPont automotive primers under dope and all have worked well. Quarts or gallons of DuPont "Fill 'n' Sand", but I don't have the part number right now. It works really well.
If its for a "blocking coat", then I use automotive lacquer or dope.
