Post by: Bootlegger on February 19, 2009, 10:30:00 AM
y1    Mornin guy's, What method do ya'll use to make a pattern of your engine's lug mounting? What I'm trying to do is set up a holder that will bolt in where the engine goes to mount in a spray stand for painting my model.
Any help sure will be 'ppreciated...... #^

Hmm, well, I cut a plate to the correct size to fit the engine mounts and just sort of do eyeball measurements. I drill the holes out big enough to allow for some error.

The other option is to find someone with a CAD drawing of the engine including top view and just use that as a pattern.

I do it with three strips of poster board (or file folder stock) that are about one inch wide, by whatever length you need.  I use post-it note glue and glue one under each lug....then use regular glue to glue one across the back that fits against the back of the case.  Then mark the holes, remove the entire thing in one peiceand voila.....you have your perfect template.  I hope this makes sense, I haven't had my morning gup of coffee yet!  D>K H^^
