I spent most of the day doing the clean battery install. Super meticulous very small cramped spaces. I am still detail sanding. If I don't make front row it wont be from the lack of trying. I do however see a military scheme in the works as it would be lighter and with the plane together I can better keep a eye on its weight. It'd creeping up and you don't know where its coming from. Funny.

Electric needle valve. Adjust RPM 500 up -down 250 each way

Paint weight is right on target. As you see it here 57 OZ. I don't think I will add more than 3 oz in the finish in trim and clear. Unfortunately I will not be using urethane,(well I might) just clear dope.

Obviously there's a lot more coming yet, but are you going to extend the red graphic in front of the canopy too?

progress is slow because I am painting RED. I hate using read as a trim color because the tape job has to be perfect. Red will find anywhere to bleed. So if you are using read as a trim color take heed and tape well.

My choices are all about weight. I am using doors instead of pants because they weigh only 4 grams each. I choose grey to use less paint. I have found the the wire in this plane is extremely heavy and I will shorten them up. A 2 inch jumper wire is 6 grams. so there is a foot of wire in the plane and if I can take out 6 inches that's a half ounce.

You are absolutely correct about red. It does not matter how carefull I am I always have a blow through somewhere. Looks good Spark, keep it up. Don't worry about the doors, Howard makes the front row every year with wire gear. VD~

That would be a pretty complicated 3 step mask. I would have one of the ink jet printer guys make you those.

Actually, I really like the scheme the way it is. I'm a basic, uncluttered (except my work table!) kind of guy. Its simple and good looking. H^^

You could spray the taped edge with a quick coat of clear to seal the edge.
Then shoot the color. Prevents bleeding. Well, it should. n~

I get no bleed under the tape. It the areas that are not tapped that pick up red dust.

Outstanding so far, as Glenn said in a previous post, keep it simple, keep it clean. Are you going to use a third trim color, if so, what will it be? To save weight on mine I also used wheel spats as opposed to making more elaborate wheel pants and down legs. The lines of the Crossfire lend themselves to long flowing clean lines down the fuselage. I do like your last two Sparky Logos that you've shown, I have not found an interesting one to put on my FinessE at this point.
Keep the ideas and the pictures coming, looks like your weights should be well within the ballpark. Here is a side shot of mine, giving you some ideas for flowing the colors and the long lines that the Crossfire shows off well.

Been searching for a hr for a water slide decal but can't find one yet. I might have to buy a inkjet printer and paper

I would like to publicly thank Wil Hubin for his great service and products. He sent me at no charge a new FM9 timer ever though I was the one responsible for the damage to the first one.

today I added 1 OZ of tip weight bringing the grad total to 1680 grams. 59.25 with clear left to go. So I don't think I will make under 60 OZ but should make under 62 with clear. That's 2.25 oz of clear paint. I hope I can do it in 1 but I know me Bet I can't. For some reason there is something about a slick shiny airplane that draws me to finish that way even though I know better. If you want it light you can't add paint.

the white parts of the decal will be hard without an ALPs printer...

Depending on the size, they could be made out of vinyl and layered for the different colors.
Cutters can only do so much when things get small. Blade and all.
I do have a wholesale printer that does my full color.

Just put the decals over the white painted base and you will not have to worry about it

you kinda miss the point with a stunt ship,, every gram matters,, adding enough clear to blend the thickness of a vinyl sticker adds weight in the worst possible place,, on the tail,,,
also, my small little ameture home cutter would cut that design with no problem at all, I have done lettering down to a quarter inch before,, that design has thickness and no real areas of concern except for the multicolor,,,

If this is the one that's coming out nose heavy, then extra weight on the tail isn't going to be a big problem.
Unless Sparky's fixed the nose heavy problem.

in order to get the appearance we desire for STUNT competition, clear would be necessary both for a smooth glossy finish, and fuel proofing the vinyl,, so by referring to layering, you meant multiple layers of vinyl,, not clear over the vinyl,, that makes it worse,, not better,,
Paint would most generally be prefered,, its much lighter than vinyl,, and much more attractive,,
anyway, back to sparky's build,, sorry for the hijack Robert,,
simple and clean so far,,

Well, fuel proofing isn't necessary, but the thing does need to be durable and you have to clean it.

Yeah, we need a rule against running engines in he pits. Have lost cont many times I have seen people running engines with the exhaust blowing all over other peoples planes.

Glad to see the red added on the nose. I think it needs the thin red line on the wings and stab to match the fuse. From there I guess I'd think about somehow adding some blue. Maybe the blue on the bottom third of the fuse with a big "USA" or something over the grey in between the red and blue. Don't make "Reddy" feel like you have to add more yellow to the scheme just because of him being on the tail, he'll be just fine as is. ;D

Not to mention a pilot who came up to me at the NW Regionals last year and muttered "my fuel line just slipped off my syringe, and I squirted fuel all over an electric plane" before gathering his courage and going to find the owner.
Electrics still need fuel-proof finishes, or at least finishes that are fuel resistant enough to take the occasional accidental dribble or squirt, or blast from an engine exhaust.
