Poly span
« on: February 05, 2011, 10:34:58 PM »
I put poly span on my SV 11 wing tonight and got to aggressive with the heat gun and have a couple of small holes I need to repair.  There is no dope on the open bays as of yet.  Should I patch the holes with small pieces of silk span or small pieces of poly span?

Thanks,

James

I've made the same mistake. If the holes are small, just use silkspan. It's easier to blend in torn pieces of silkspan than cut pieces of Polyspan anyway. However, if you've got holes of 1 sq in or bigger, the polyspan patch would be stronger.

If you look you will see the patch I had to put on.  It is a scrap peice of Poly span.   After several coats of dope you can hardly feel the edges.  I am shooting for an * point finish on this one.  Will have pics of the pilot later.   H^^

Use silkspan, it will be much easier to feather and blend in with a few coats of clear and a little sanding.

Maybe. But I've seen Doc's planes. I'm pretty sure he can do a little better than *. oops, I mean 8.

Doc deals with the old adage of "self depreciation".  I suspect he's read too many of Randy Powell's posts!  His planes do look a lot better than HE lets on.  **)  **)  (PE**)  CLP**

Bill, you have not seen  my planes in person.   Ask about the Nobler that was hidden behind the bush at VSC one year.   H^^
