Most wont believe what I did!
« on: March 14, 2013, 09:02:39 AM »
I was having a problem with the clear on the outboard flap. I cratered every time I painted it. So yesterday I sanded it all off. Down to the CF and brought it back up. Well feeling gun shy about trying it again I decided to try the Krylon Crystal clear I had bought for decals. The is a electric model so it doesn't have to b fuel proof and its only on the flap. I painted the first 2 coats and it looks the same as my catalyzed urethane. So the the fix is complete.

That Krylon Crystal Clear is good stuff and isn't it nice to not have to worry about fuel proofing the electric models!!  y1

Just keep it away from those grubby pawed IC buddies who want to handle you model and who fire up in the pits nearby!!!

Robert,

Did you blend or shoot the whole flap?

I'm with Robert. Try it. The worst that happens is you have to refinish a flap. Not the endo fhte world.

Does this mean that electric power may do in dope?

If you mean will electric power eliminate the market for dope -- I don't think so.  Dope is optimized for rendering nice paint jobs on flexible surfaces, which is why it's still used for rubber power.  I think it'll be around for a good long time.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.
