Thai silk 8mm vs AeroSilk
« on: May 31, 2018, 08:47:39 PM »
Has anyone worked with the AeroSilk and the 8mm Thai silk? I have read that the 8mm will hold up and the AeroSilk can tend to split after a few years. I need to decide on a covering for my Barnstomer and would like to do the clear colored silk but don't want to get stuff that's to heavy or stuff that won't hold up. Plan on a dope finish with death paint top coat.

Best,   DennisT

All my planes were covered with Aerosilk from 1993 -2004.  None of then have ever split.  My Cobra 9 that I built there in 2003 has no issues with the
silk.

The 8 mm is too thick for me.  I use the 5.5.

I've used LOTS of 5.5.  The 8 mm is reserved for reinforcing stress areas.
