Post by: Joe Mig on January 02, 2011, 12:38:54 PM
I just came across this Jay Leno advertisement about spray on chrome and thought it is something spme of us would be interested in .  I would think you can use fuel proof clear over it.

Is this the stuff where you shoot water on then the chrome? I was watching a Street Customs show that talked about this stuff. Sounded like it worked really well but you have to use distilled water. Contaminates keep it from sticking.

There is another one that you spray over a GLOSS black base coat, it has to be sprayed VERY VERY evenly and extremely light. Its picky to get the perfect effect, but its definetly cool if you get it right. Kurt and I Have played with some of it, for smaller areas it would be less critical.
There are a couple systems out there, all of them require strict adherance to the procedures to get the desired effect of true chrome. Oh, and its a really good place to use a Pro spray gun too, like the Sata MiniJet,, No Harbor freight guns need apply, the pattern has to be precise or it streaks horribly

There is a chrome paint the plastic car model people use which seems to work OK on airplanes.

This is the one and it seems the best one so far that I've seen but I have not used it .
I tryed a few others but I was not happy with the finish.
