Title: Spray dope or paint
Post by: Allen Eshleman on January 01, 2014, 09:26:30 AM
What have you all found about spray dopes or paints?  What works best for you?

I have some Lustre Kote and some Coverite.  Is spray or brush clear recommended?  Would either work over Brodak clear?

What about spraying clear over the color?  Is some kind of sanding sealer recommended underneath?  Could I used thinned clear for sanding sealer?

Too many variables in questions.   I spray my color and final clear when painting with either dope or automotive paints.   The base coats I brush.  Now for painting over the plastic films, make sure to use the old Brillo Scouring Pad to dull the area to be painted.  This is my experience.

Basically,  I'm thinking most of using either Lustre Kote or Coverite.  I'm planning to possibly use that for the fuselage of the Vector and I already have ultracote for the wings, the flaps, the stab etc. all the built up parts.

I have used the spray can of Rustoleum on one plane.  It was an experiment on one plane.  Will take more time on next plane.

Hi Doc,

What is that plane.  What is under the color?  Have you flown it a lot and is it fuel proof?  Does that engine use a lot of castor?

Lots of questions again.   Shucks. agreed, too many questions in first post.

That is a Gotcha Streak III from Corehouse, a Phil Cartier design.   I have several flights on it and am still trimming for level flight.  It is serving its purpose of getting  me into the air.  Power is LA .40.
