Title: So Far, So Good
Post by: Bill Little on April 05, 2012, 07:14:50 PM
Don't ya just hate it when you get a hole in your beautiful silkspan covered wing?

Well, I tried the Steve Moon (and possibly others) method of covering the open bays with SLC before covering it with Silkspan.  Puncture resistance is off the charts when compared to the Silkspan alone.  I am not sure that the weight difference of adding the SLC will even matter since it looks like it will take less dope to fill the Silkspan.

Maybe I will sleep a little better at night knowing the wing won't quite so easily get a hole in it!

amen!
I know I will be looking at ways to keep the penetration risk minimized in the future,,

although stickers do cover punctures pretty well,,

Hi Mark,

The accident with your Avenger wasn't on my mind when I wrote this, but maybe the SLC would have prevented it.

It may have, no way of knowing since I dont know what it was that made the hole, so no way to postulate on benfits of SLC,,
