So first time with wheel pants. Do you put silk span on them as well?

Whatever your chosen method of filling the wood grain is, do it everywhere. If you're filling grain with silkspan -- put silkspan on the pants.

You relative novices need some advice from a guy who's been there. If you put silkspan on your pants, take them off before applying dope, particularly thin dope which could run into the inside. Similarly, take them off before ironing on MonoKote, particularly on the crotch area.

Not to contradict my friend Howard, but you may want to apply .50 oz glass cloth to toughen them up a little to better handle the wear & tear they may get. And most certainly take uncle Howard's' astute recommendations, by all means. ;)

So maybe use fiberglass and z-poxy?

Yeah, the finishing resin. Thin it out ( I use denatured alcohol) and brush it on, and blot the excess with toilette tissue or a paper towel to limit the weight build up. :)

Nothing wrong with polyspan, been there done it! Do half at a time with the seam running for and aft. Not as hard as you think, give it a try. ;)

I generally use silkspan mostly because that's weight a long way from the vertical CG. The lighter the gear (and wheelpants) are, the better.

I tried glass, but it's itchy.

How about carbon, Howard? Seems you use a lot of that.

Silkspan, Silk, or 1/2 oz. fiberglass cloth applied with Zap Z-poxy. I like the FG best of all, much more durable.
