Title: silkspan and dope
Post by: philip metzner on July 20, 2010, 09:47:20 PM
When brushing on the clear dope, is there any preferred direction? LE to TE, or root to tip, one way then the other? I havent done this in a long time and just dont remember. HB~>

To counter the dry spots, my brother taught me this,  first coat span wise.  Nest coat chord wise.  Alternate directions between coats.  H^^

Going chordwise from LE to TE gives you start and stop points which you can make with loaded brush.
If you go spanwise you will have start and stop points in middle of panel that are hard to keep smooth.
Considering the number of coats involved in a dope finish, I dont see dry spots to be an isssue..

Just an added note, alternating the angle of coats leaves less brush marks to deal with in th final stages of filling/sanding.  Chord wise, span wise, 45* to right, 45* to left, etc..
