Now my idea so far is to have it fisinhed with dope, with some SLC and silkspan on the flaps, stab/elev and spray the basic color.
Then, the decoration I'll go with monokote or vinyl.
Have one color scheme on my mind already.
Today I sanded a lot, it's a bigass plane, almost didn't fit in my compact's trunk... My arms hurt

I see Threads in places about SLC.

I honestly have no idea what SLC stands for or what the material is.

Does seem popular though.

It's an excellent way to cover your model. Have used a few times. Whatever material I use, SLC will be underneath it.
Have done with silkspan, but I'm curious to use it with silk and polyspan.
I'll do that to add some strength as well.

OK, let me get this straight.

SLC is applied with a heat iron, correct?

Then you have used and applied other materials which requiring dope to be applied over this SLC, that was applied with a heat gun, correct?

After I iron the SLC, I brush two coats of dope and put the silkspan on the usual way, and spray two coats of dope and thinner 50/50. It melts the dope previously brushed on and the silkspan sticks to the SLC very nicely, and it takes much less dope to fill in the silkspan. On open Bays it's great because the dope doesn't leak to the inside, like when you are covering wings and the dope drips to the inside, it doesn't happen.
It's really good and adds no weight at all...

Here's my questions.

Does the dope penetrate the SLC? To the wood? Is the material woven? Or does it just float on top? Plastic material?

Yes, I'm going someplace with this.

SLC = Super Light Covering. I was first being used by the combat guys and a gentleman by the name of Phil Cartier started selling it with simple instructions on its use. The combat guys do not go for 20 point finishes. They want the plane light and tough.

Since I discovered it, I've done 3 planes using it, including the 2 you made those stickers for.
The other one was lost due to engine failure, and though the fuselage was in pieces, the wing covering didn't have a single hole..
Last week I covered a combat model with SLC only, and very good!

Better get back at it or will never finish this ship.
I don't use filler, i like to use balsa pieces and CA, sanding it immediately, so the balsa dust mixes with the CA giving it a smooth surface.
Gotta do that in a few places... Adds 0 weight.
Will have more done soon.

I use 30 min epoxi+microballoons. I tape around the wing-fuselage joint line and apply the epoxi mixture evenly.
Then, I soak my little finger with alcohol and run it over the joint, always from the TE to the LE, pressing the epoxi.
You get a smooth and even finish end wipe off all epoxi excess.

I make mine with Polyester resin and micro-balloons. I've only used Epoxy two part glue. I gotta branch out.

I don't use tape as you have. I use my fingers. Different fingers give me a different radius. Wink, wink.

I'm going to use one Enya 60 III.
Now I'm going to advance until primer is on.
I thought of a paint scheme,but gave it up, too much work and very little time for complicated stuff.
Robert's model inspired me to look for something simpler, so I still have to come up with something.
But that something will go over the primer, so...
Gonna finish the fillets later on today and move on tothe elevators' fairings and the stab fillets.
One thing at a time. I've ruined great buildings in he past for rushing the finishing.
Won't do that again!

That's a good question Glenn

I've found it easier to wipe off the excess of epoxi this way, and it also makes the joint line much better looking at the LE, I mean keeping the radius.
It's difficult to get the same shape starting at the LE. At the TE it finishes at "zero", differently from the LE, which has the radius.

I've always wanted to finish a model with the Thunderbirds color scheme, thought of doing that, but right now it's not the best choice.
I've decided on white as base and red and blue marks to match the colors on the sticker.
Just don't know how the lay out will look like...
