filler
« on: November 30, 2010, 12:00:54 PM »
I am building an O/T stuntship and the tail surfaces are 1/8" balsa, I don't want to have it looking like a pretzel by using dope.
I am thinking about poly crylic instead.
I plan to coat one end top and bottom, and when dry do the same to the other end. When dry put the second coat on, then spray primer on to seal the wood better.
Does any one have a better idea?

I would use epoxy, Poly is water based and still could lead to warping the thin control surfaces IMHO
For years the rat race had me going around in circles, Now I do it for fun!

I've built a lot of solid-balsa 1/2-A ships, with 1/8" thick for the wings and non-tautening dope for finish.  I haven't had a problem with warping.

I wouldn't use content-weight wood for the stab, though, unless the plane is pretty darn small.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

Go with the dope but put some of the Flex-All in it.

Use firm, (not rock hard) C-Grain wood...No problemo

Built 3 El Diablo elevators this way. Nary a warp!
