Title: Scale decals for my Sterling Yak-9
Post by: RknRusty on December 19, 2013, 08:55:26 PM
If the decals in my Sterling Yak-9 kit are too discolored I will try to find new replacements. Anyone know what scale size this .35 sized plane is, so I can choose the right size decals? I also would like to find some Cyrillic letters so I can write something nasty in Russian on the side. Thanks.

Hi, Ty. I looked at the Brodak decal set last night, and it looks like only stars. But the picture may not be accurate. I should call and ask.

I'll ask John Rist too, thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Hey Charles, that looks like the place. Now I just gotta figure out what scale size this plane is.

As long as we're on the subject, I have another question. I posted it on another forum too. I want to put panel lines and rivets on its white paint job. I will top coat the paint with Lustrekote clear, and I wonder what to draw those details with. The clear might make sharpie ink run. The other Idea I had is maybe a #3 pencil. I want the lines to be light and thin.

Here's what I want it to look like:

there is a type of pen that has been used pretty successfully, it used to  be Rapidagraphs were the pen of choice, they are finicky and dont like to be used once every long while,, ( I dont have a problem, I clean mine ech time I use them) but Micron pens have many widths, and some colors,, might try them,,

Good, I might try those. That's a good deal too. Staples sells them for twice that price. Thanks Mark.

I found this on my LHS's website: Top Flite Panel Line Pen, #TOPQ2510. It should be safe for Lustrekote since that's also a TF product. The Pen's instructions say to clear coat it, but don't specify what with. If it doesn't work well, I'll let y'all know. Thanks.

"  I want to put panel lines and rivets on its white paint job. "

The wings fabric covering over ply , so - bar a few inspection panels & the fillets .  HB~> Though a Yak 9U is all metal - No radiatopr under the nose though .

Heres some Yak 3 rivets . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LwMr0NvX1_o
