Title: Rustoluem
Post by: James Mills on July 06, 2015, 05:21:39 PM
I'm finishing up a new bird and I used Rustoleum.  How long do I need to wait before it's safe to tape off trim areas?

I would give it at least 24 hours.  I can't remember on mine whether I gave it one day or two (it's been a LONG time!).

If you give it more than a few days then scuff the paint that's to get the trim -- Rustoleum that's just a day or two old makes a great surface to stick Rustoleum to, but if you give it the two weeks it needs to be fuel proof, then it turns out to be Rustoleum proof, too.  I don't know when it changes from Rustoleum Ready to Rustoleum Proof, but it does.  I have an otherwise nice Twister whose fuselage trim is chipping off over time because of this.
