Since I already have your attention, another item I am having problems with my apprenticeship with silk finishes.
Now that my first large structures are in the curing stage, I can see the weave is nowhere near straight despite all my fussing to make it so before doping it down.
I am wetting the silk before laying it on the structure. This sure helps get wrinkles out, but makes the weave next to impossible to see properly.
What is the "trick" to making sure the weave of the fabric is straight before doping down the edges?

Lay it on the wing dry and spray with water while on the wing that way there is less chance of weave distortion.
That's the way I have always done it.
