Primer as block coat over Dupli color?
« on: November 04, 2020, 10:52:32 AM »
Has anyone sprayed primer of Dupli color to act as a block coat then applied the Dupli color over it? Had an area that was light color under covering and when I shot the color for the checkerboard got some light spots over the leading and trailing edge areas. Thought I could shoot a light block coat then top coat over a constant base. Any thoughts?

As I usually say, you pays your money and takes your chances. Anytime you mix materials, you take a chance of incompatibility. It's always safer to use materials that are they same - lacquer with lacquer, enamel with enamel, etc. Even that can be dicey if from different manufacturers.

So, I'd do a test first.

Well as the paint dried it seems to be covering better so might just do a another coat over the LE & TE and call it good. Should have put the primer on first to get a even base, tried to save some weight, kinda worked.

The last 3 or 4 planes I've build had no filler coat or primer. I slightly tinted some clear and just used that to build up the surface for paint. Much lighter.
