I put a small dab of Sigment or ambroid on my pinky and let it dry ...then fuss with it a bit to make it have rough edges....
the inside side drags and smooth out side slips.... my eyes CANNOT see the distinction

Maybe the smoother grades of Velcro? Something that will slide on the smooth side and catch on the bottom.

So far the Poly-Span I have used curls towards the surface that is the ruff side. As stated, if you hold it under a light you will see the ruff side is a little duller sheen. But if you so put it down wrong, put several more coats of dope on before sanding very lightly, other wise use Larry Renger's idea of SLC(Super Lite Covering) from Corehouse instead of dope.

After a couple of coats of dope, wet sanding with 2000 grit will cut the fuzz without raising more if you screw up.
