SLC??
« on: July 18, 2012, 10:39:57 AM »
HI All,

Looking for some wisdom about using SLC.  We covered Aaron's Trophy Trainer with it but the wing tips really suck! LOL!!  Is there any secret to doing wing tips correctly?

I have used it on the open bays only with a big stunter but covered over it with silkspan which covered the wingtips.

HELP!!!!! ;D

Use a separate peice for the wing tips.  Or as most say, go the silkspan route.  Myself I turn up the iron while doing the  tips  and do some pulling.  Still get wrinkles, but I am not going for 20 point finish with it either. H^^

Yeah, the wingtips suck...
I've tried cutting with scissors where the wrinkles form before ironing.
That's what has worked the best for me.
I also use a separated part for the tips.
On this P51 I got no wrinkles..(luck!?)

Coach, first how are ya' doing with the treatments? Gotta get well and strt flyin again ole pal.
Second question, how does SLC work on a foam wing that is partially covered with balsa?  (l/e t/e center section) how hot do you have to set the iron?

SLC works pretty similarly to ultracote. Has much more shrink capability than monocote, but not as much as ultracote. There is a section on the T-Rex build thread I did on the electric forum that shows in detail how to do wingtips in film.
