Paint on Monokote
« on: April 16, 2019, 08:51:16 PM »
Masaru Hiki's United was on the second row at VSC.  A noted painter and pilot commented on it the next day at the field.  I told him it was Monokote, and he said "Like yours is Monokote".  Well, mine isn't, but Masaru's is!  It is trimmed with automotive two stage colors on the wings, flaps, elevators and fuselage.  It is clear coated with two part automotive clear.  I have no idea what brand.  This is the same take apart United he has used at VSC before, refinished.  Very well executed, you have to look real close to see that it is indeed plastic film.

The late and great Carl Shoupe had a plane at Topeka one year that was a MonoKote finish.   Do not remember full details, but you could not see or feel the seams. D>K

I don't remember much paint on Carl's airplanes, very nice Monokote work though.  I launched his  Bellfree Bound a few times, the green one and the blue one.
