What's a good way to remove over spray (spraying dope)?

Thanks,
James

I use a Mr. Clean magic eraser sponge to remove overspray. I picked up that idea from one of Phil Granderson's articles in MA when he was writing the stunt column.

Good idea, I also use a paper towel with rubbing alcohol to wipe off very light overspray. Light sanding will get it sometimes too. If all else fails back mask the area and dust it with the base color to bring it back.

Thanks for the reminder Matt, I forgot about that one.

I use VMP Naphtha and a paper towel. As long as you don't wait too long, it comes right off.

Thanks for all the suggestions.  I think if I could stay out of my own way and I could get this thing finished.  I spent some time touching up some spots today.  Hope to be putting clear on next week.

I have used a very light application of rubbing compound on a paper towel.  Also a 3m scrub pad, but very, very lightly.  Also like Derek says, just pray over with the base coat. H^^

What Ty said works if the paint is dry enough to not smear and redeposit itself elsewhere (nasty habit like when you overspray red onto white, by buffing it out you open the pores of the white in surrounding area's, and it's more of a "stain" on the white at that point from the red dye, and very hard to get out)... but what I also wanted to mention, is if you do use compound, make sure it is silicone free, like most of the better 3M products are, or you can have adhesion problems with the next color or clear.

Isn't that the truth? I was painting a small area (retouching)  and when I was pulling tape, managed to drag my knuckle right through the somewhat still wet paint. Sheesh!

You might try a Clay Bar to remove a light dust of overspray..

My wife laughed when she read your response.  Then she asked if you were the one that killed the bat LL~.
I managed to screw up a mask on the fuse side and almost have that cleaned as well as it will be.  Planning to clear Wednesday.

That made me laugh out loud.  Since I posted last night I did a small touch up on the stab and managed to spill the paint out of the airbrush all over the wing over the checkers (I was using the little cup that comes with it that has no lid and only holds a little paint, what could go wrong right HB~>).  Luckily all I had to do was sand it as smooth as I could and repainted the black checkers, got that squared away today.  Now if I can go 12-18 hours without screwing anything else up I'll get the urethane clear on tomorrow and be flying this weekend and try and have it all squared away before we leave for Muncie (not the best time frame but you do what you can).

james,

I post a lot of my screwups. Sort of a "I do this dump$hit stuff so you can avoid it" sort of thing. But there are time when I think the Stunt Gods are unhappy with me. On the other hand, the last plane I built that the finish went like clockwork without a single problem ended up flying like a turd, so maybe it is the Stunt Gods.

20 point?  I'm just hoping they don't put it out in the hall during appearance judging LL~.

O know the feeling. My current plane looks pretty cool ... from 5 feet away.
