My Sig Nitrate turned brown in the can, is that bad? I used some on a beater plane and it seemed to work.

I've seen nitrate dope completely brown and dried out in the can. it was revived with thinner? and used apparently with no problems.

When nitrate turns amber or brown that indicates it has become more acidic than it should be.  It is a reaction to the metal in the can and air.  I would not use it for a full-scale airplane cover job but you may well get away with it using it on a model.
