Finish on Skyray
« on: February 27, 2024, 01:09:46 AM »
Just wanted to let you know how I finished the wood/fuselage on my Skyray 35.
Three coats of wood brushing lacquer, light sanding after each coat.
One coat of black Rustoleum enamel.
That's it.
I will let you know how it stands up to fuel.
Just glad to be here

Dave,
The trick with Rustoleum is to let it cure out at least two weeks before fuel exposure. This seems to be the time it takes to develop fuel resistance.

Hi David, how long after the last coat of lacquer did you wait until you sprayed the Rustoleum?

Looks great David. Any plan for some canopy color?  :)

I also have a relatively new Skyray with OS 25LA. I did make a few build changes on mine based on some of Brett Buck's suggestions. It flies really well. I am not able as yet to do the full pattern yet, but a buddy of mine did the full pattern with it.

The canopy stickers from the kit.

Hi Dave,
Nicely built & looking great, I’m sure it will fly very well.  Nice to see it in the stock form even with the single wheel, most of the complaints about the single wheel is they think it’s easer to land with a two wheels, I always liked the single wheel better for a number of reasons, you can whip it on the ground to get it back to your launch point (within reason).  Also, the single wheel makes great landings by holding the nose up until the landing speed slows and just let it settle the last six inches and it lands itself.  On hard a surfaces with the elevator neutral or just a slight amount of down it will roll quit a ways, it won’t take you long to get the hang of that,

Have a blast,
Mike Pratt

Paul: It appears they’re a perfect match.

Dave Mo…
The packaging is the product (with apologies to Marshall McLuhan).
