Well after reading many forums regarding what paint does what, goes over what, is resistant to what . . . I still made a big mistake!  ~^  I finished my TT with Rustoleum spray enamel, good so far. When I went to buy some clear, they didn't have any. I was told that Painters Touch by Rustoleum was "compatible". No it is not, (Not in the ways we need anyway) I can guarantee that. I now have a slight orange peel look where the water based Painters Touch upset the enamel. Also, I've learned (from the school of hard knocks) that Painters Touch is not fuel proof, nor fuel resistant; well maybe somewhat fuel "resistant". I now have to clean the plane as best I can and reshoot some clear.

Oh well, it's a fun hobby no matter.  ;D

Rustoleum clear is not fuel proof either.

Thanks Paul; I would just have "assumed" that it was. I'll go get the Minwax Poly.

If you used Rustoleum, you might be better off using something like catalyzed polyurethane. It doesn't react to butyrate lacquer or epoxy. I don't know about enamel, but as long as you don't have to repair it, it would probably be fine.

That's the thing with painting. Anytime you "go off the reservation", you are taking a chance. Sometime even when you stay on it because of painting conditions. Painting is a lot of Art mixed with Science.

I now have 3 coats of Minwax clear poly on the TT. So far so good, very nice gloss and seems to be adhering well; the next week will let me know better.

My next purchase will be an air gun of some sort, and then I will "stay on the reservation" with known products and their characteristics. Oh yea, a paint stand will be coming soon too.
