Krylon vs Rustoleum primer - Never Mind
« on: March 08, 2019, 04:23:15 PM »
My source for Rustoleum gray auto primer has dried up 1 can short of being done with primer.  Can Krylon gray auto primer be used in it's place and most importantly, can Rustoleum color be applied over Krylon primer?

Ken

Never mind.  I went ahead with another shade of Rustoleum.

I can't answer your above question but on new projects from here on out consider using NAPA #DC540 primer, it's great stuff.

Wayne:

Will it go between coats of Sig dope?  I am refinishing an old stuntship originally painted with Sig dope.  I've sanded it down and repaired spots as needed.  Now I am trying to repaint with more Sig and having all kinds of problems - particularly at any edges where I sanded through the old finish.  I'm going to sand it down again and use something other than Sig, at least until I get some isolation from the original surface.

Dope/enamel/dope is a recipe for disaster.
The first layer as dope is fine.
The second layer as enamel is fine,  if it is the last layer.
The third layer as dope will soften the first layer of dope right through the enamel, and the enamel will slough in a gooey mess.
