klasskote resurrection
« on: November 14, 2024, 12:04:34 PM »
I have a can, nearly full, of KlassKote that was opened some time back and with which I painted one model. I cleaned the can threads and the cap and tightly sealed it up. Now today, the paint in that can is so thick I couldn't use it, the consistency of thick tar.

I hate to throw away an almost full can of that terribly expensive paint. What do I do to resurrect it?

Regards,

Bill Lee

If you can mix it, it will cure. You'll have to use some thinner after mixing. I don't know of any way to reconstitute it before mixing. You might experiment with heat. I know epoxy resin can crystalize and thin out again with heat. Put the can in a pot of hot water and let soak and repeat. I've used some pretty thick Superpoxy decades old and it was ok. Good luck.

It is a can of bright red that i had used to paint the red F2A model. That's all that had been used. Turns out i had another new can that KK had mistakenly sent me when i ordered the dark red for the Slow Rat,  so i was able to get the painting done. (The red F2A model again with revised cowl.) But I sure hate to throw away what is essentially a full can.
