Graphics for the P-40 Warhawk!
« on: July 20, 2014, 03:52:21 PM »
I've Posted a few profiles of schemes before, but nothing really serious. The Loser, remember?

I'm trying to decide on a scheme now, so I'm looking at this a bit more serious because I will choose from these elements an arrangement for the P-40 Warhawk.

Much of this stuff I already have in vector files because I do specialize in Warbird graphics.

It's just a matter of sizing. No big deal there, I do have the model to go by.

Background color I can change at a click of the switch. Not really a switch, but quick. Gives me an idea how each color will look.

If I can find a good scheme to copy I'll be all set, or, I can combine some of these elements and just make one up.

I can make this stuff in vinyl or paint masks. Not sure about masks because I'll use aerosol cans, RRC, and I'm not all that confident with using them yet.

No, I won't start up an airbrush for the graphics on this model, although I should.

Just "plane" lazy.  n~

Well to be different, you could just make it all polished aluminum like the very first one. Use the test flight insignia from Wright -Patterson.  H^^

Ty,

I could leaf the thing with aluminum leaf, might even be able to polish it. I never tried polishing leaf.

You put the leaf on for the look of the leaf.

Could gold leaf the whole model. That would be a kick.

I thought the prototype was a much different aircraft?

The Brazil scheme has no teeth?

OK, I looked. It does have teeth.

Well I hate to say this but all you need to do is fly it to prove them wrong. Looks great and a good addition to your collection. I knew you had it in you.

Robert,

I don't need to prove anyone wrong. Those that know, know. Whatever that means?  n~

And of course I'll fly it, I only paid 20 bucks for it.

Had all the paint but one color. Used left over vinyl scraps except for the black. Had the covering and dope. Did buy wheels and the canopy. Had the tank. Even if I have 50 bucks total in the thing, still a deal.

You mentioned labor in your video, well, that's the fun part! ;D

Can't get that back.

Collection! Yes, my junk planes?

I'd like to see your collection, absolutely!

Avaiojet.
For your next build I think you should aim at 100% scale, speed control an all.

You've done a great job at knocking up a p40, let's see you tackle a full scale project.
Find your plans and build it from scratch.

Damian,

100% true scale outlines, tires, hubs, gear, graphics, running lights, interior plus correct surface detail, static props? And there's more.

Scale requires a great deal of work to take on those exact scale tasks.

I'm not interested in that because I don't compete.

So "playful" modeling is now where my interest is and I find it enjoyable.

When I refer to a scale project that I may consider, I use the word "scale" loosly. Really loose.

Thanks for the reply.
