KBS Clear great BUT.........don't let dope touch it.
« on: June 03, 2015, 06:57:45 AM »
So trying to do what should be a easy and small crash repair job on a Pathfinder profile arc that used dope for the under coats and used butyrate to attach the polyspan, then entire model was spray with one coat of KBS clear.  When trying to reattach new polyspan with dope over the KBS, wherever the dope hit the KBS, blister city!!  What a mess... ~^ ~^ ~^  Never again.

I'm assuming 2 part auto clears does NOT react the same way?  Please advise

Yea, same thing with catalyzed polyurethane. When doing repairs, you have to sand the urethane way back and not let fresh dope touch it or you get the crinkles.

If someone has found a way to cover an open bay wing without using any dope at all, I would like to know about that process. Especially if the material adheres as well as dope and the results are tight as a drum.

This would eliminate dope for any repair.

Polycrylic, Polyspan, heat shrink.

I used that technique on my repair.  Issue is putting the dope back on around the edges of the polyspan and not letting the dope get into the clear.

OR

Are you saying use polycrylic on the open bays instead of dope??? :!

Yes because Ajet wanted a process with no dope.  Bradley Walker published an article about this, there was a link on the UHP website.

Understandable, then you would apply polyspan dry?
