I had an unfortunate incident with a brand new plane, and I'm doing an emergency build of an Imitation that a friend gave me.
I'll probably have dug up something and covered the plane by the time anyone answers, but I'm still curious -- is SLC strong enough to cover a full-sized stunter? Specifically an Imitation, but really any of the 600-700 square inch planes out there.

I was going to use it on Endgame IV with a silkspan undercoat. Opted for monokote. HOWEVER, I did test it on the Rudder w/o silkspan before sheeting. I would not think it gives the wing the necessary flex resistance all by itself. I didn't like it much but it may have a use (for me) to replace dope over balsa. It is too thin and gets down into the grain but accepts filler really well. Didn't get past that. It may be lighter that 5-6 coats of dope, but it sticks well enough to give it a try. Endgame 5 is going to have an all paint finish and I might try SLC as an undercoat. Anything to save weight.

Hey thanks Ken -- that's the answer I was expecting.
I have a bazzillion rolls of various 'coats, but I don't know that I have enough matching rolls to make a unified base coat -- and I don't want TOO much of a patchwork on this.

I've used Coverite Micro Lite, I think it's similar to SLC. I use it over Polyspan light that I get from the free flight guys. I have used it alone over open bays on a 1/2a Pathfinder and, it's holding up so far but, worrisome. I would never use it alone over open bays on a full size ship.

I went to one of the last remaining hobby shops and got some Monocoat. Yes -- Monocoat. They had Monocoat, Hanger 9 Ultracoat, Carl Goldberg Ultracoat, and a lot of empty shelf space.
I walked out of there with way more rolls than the one I meant to pick up -- I figured it may be my last chance to get something before they run out of business.
