Here's a tip

So, here's a tip. If you are spraying a somewhat transparent color on a plane with spotty filler, use a blocking coat. Sheesh, this is going to take about 6 light coats and I hope it covers.

Yea, ,me too.  When I painted my magician with Randolph's yellow, I realized that after 3 coats, I should have put down a blocking base coat. The other colors were not a problem, but the yellow sucks. :(

So true...add light blue to colors that need a white base rather than silver or silver-grey.  8)

Yea, even a thin coat of white would have made this a lot easier. So, three light coats in and it's marginal, but I don't want to lay on anymore. So, at certain angles, it will just be leprous. Sigh.

I'll try to cover some of it with trim, but I'm sure not sanding it down again.

Mark,

Somehow I thought that a metallic paint with a lot of gold in it would have just covered better. I don't know why. I mean, yellow IS yellow, after all, no matter what else is in there. So for future reference, I'll follow my own advice. If it's a transparent color (red, yellow, orange over any variation thereof) regardless if it's metallic, pearl, candy or solid, use a blocking coat.

Oh well, it doesn't look too bad and I'll live with it.

Curiously, the PPG yellow acrylic laquer that I used on my current dog covered amazingly well in one coat.

Howard,

You probably had a fairly even color underneath. I've had yellows that covered well, but they usually had some sort of base that was fairly even.

Randy, in some cases metallic is great for coverage, but in a lot of cases, there isnt much pigment there,, so there is just metal flakes, and clear binder with a smidge of color,, so you can see between the metal flakes, making it transparent,,,sorry dude,, maybe after the first coat you could have hit it with a block coat, then you would have been ok,, alas, it is what it is,,
