Sikkens M-600....$$$?
« on: September 08, 2010, 07:37:23 PM »
A certain not quite local stunt person asked that I find him a source here in the Seattle area for Sikkens M-600. I did. They want $45/gallon plus tax. Is that anywhere in the ballpark of the going rate here in USA?

I haven't checked recently but I paid around 35.00 a gallon about a year ago in Iowa.

Steve, I was alittle off on my last purchase. I stumbled upon a receipt and it was 40.00 a gallon 2 years ago.

It's an excellent wet sanding solvent and cleans very well without hurting the finish. It does evaporate quite fast so is mainly used in a spray bottle.

Three pretty serious painter guys in the club (Randy is one of 'em) said they just use naptha from the hardware/paint store.

Pete Peterson (who does spectacularly smooth clear/dyed dope finishes) divulged that he used water with a few drops of liquid dish soap for wet sanding, followed by two washings with Windex, followed by a good cleaning with naptha. Between coats!  HB~> Steve

What Pete said. I use water with some dish soap and a touch of naphtha for wet sanding. I use VMP Naphtha for clean up prior to paint. Once the colors are on, I usually use Windex and perhaps some diluted denatured alcohol for cleaning (this depends on the paint used). For final cleaning prior to clearcoat, I usually just use 2 or 3 rounds with Windex.
