Hello All:
Is there any reason that I should not force dry the filler coats of clear dope over silk? Yesterday, I used a heart gun to force dry the dope after each coat. I did not notice any harmful effects and it hastened the doping part of the finish.
Comments/suggestions.

I use a heat gun also as you do to fast dry. Did this on all the models I applied dope to.
I see no issues at all.

The only downside you might see is some looseness on open bay from the hot air blowing against the covering when the dope softens. If you are careful you could do the first few coats but as the coats build up watch to make sure the covering tightens fully. I would not do this for the final coats.

I have no patents and a bunch of models going at the same time. I can't wait for dope to dry a day or so. I heat dry every coat, first to last. I like watching paint dry. LL~
I just keep the blow dryer at a distance plus move it around. I pay attention also. Hard to believe. ;D
My silk doesn't loosen up. I put it on tight and it stays tight.
Last time I silked I used CA to apply it. That was the ARGO 2. You'll see that model soon.

just one caution. Silk is an organic and if ignited will burn.

To add to what Ken said.... I was trying to force flow some epoxy.... the silk span on the wings was dry and tight.... with only one lite coat of dope
My silly and bad habit dusty shop caused a clump of dust/cobs/crud/dead insect... in the nose of the heat gun to spew a glowing goober that hit the wing skin...Poof!
Nice big hole in what WAS a nice n tight wing panel...grrrr
Force drying is ok with the cautions already mentioned... I (NOW) tend to fire the heat gun...get it up to temp... bang once or twice on counter edge to spew any hot crud out....
One of these days I may actually get one of the other shops set up and confine all sanding and painting away for all my other modeling tools

Getting on to the end of 2017---- and I have totally trashed this shop with various projects... I can not wait to do a "Spring Cleaning"...gonna be a massive Fall event ----I am not looking forward to

Here's an option. Maybe.
I no longer use dope on sheeted surfaces. I use Deft Wood Sealer. Dries fast without heat and takes less time between coats than dope.
In fact, I'm getting ready to silk the cowling for the GBR3 and I'll use Deft.
