Spray Max 2K.
« on: March 17, 2023, 06:21:41 AM »
I've used several cans of this clear coat. The last was this past Monday 3/13/23 today is 3/17/23. I smashed the button with a hammer to be sure it broke the hardener vial and shook it for a couple minutes. Then I hosed the new Pathfinder and still had some clear left in the can. I hasn't cured in the can. It's still usable and cures properly once sprayed on something. The can is labeled "Spray Max 2K Clear Glamour 368 0061" I thought since it's two part paint it would cure in the can after a short time but evidently not. Why doesn't this happen?
I may be wrong but I doubt it.

The Pot-Life of a polyurethane mixture is influenced by various factors such as the exact chemical composition of the mixture (with particular reference to the hardener), the temperature and the percentage of humidity present in the environment.
In this case the paint is stored in a container isolated from the humidity present abroad and this considerably prolongs the Pot-Life, usually a few days is the norm.
Pay close attention to the fact that probably after a week or two the paint in the can will still be liquid and you can still spray it but the paint will no longer have its original resistance characteristics. Pot-Life will be outdated.
This can also happen with normal products in can, it can happen that you prepare the mixture in the late afternoon and the following morning you discover that the leftover material is still liquid, perhaps just a little thicker.
Also in this case the paint (if applied) will no longer have all the characteristics that distinguished it.

I hope I was helpful.   Massimo

I used it yesterday and again today. It did kick off faster than the first use. As far as fuel proof that will be tested soon.

It's been over a week now and the 2K is still spraying. The nozzle is clogging up slowly and the paint cures fast now like dope.

Perry,
I have used the Max2K spray and it does keep in the can for several weeks. It seems that if there is a large mass it slows the activation. Once sprayed it cures normal. If you can keep it in the refrigerator is will keep a bit longer.
