I've been working on this "Super Combat Streak" kit by Walter Umland since just after the first of the year. All of the build info along with a bunch of pics can be found here in the Building Techniques section.

The entire finish is with Brodak dope. My goal from the beginning of the project has been to copy the original Top Flite box art scheme as closely as I can. Tonight I masked and got the orange on, it's Cessna Orange. I did screw up and forget to mask for the white "burst" stripe on the fuselage, it's supposed to have one coming from the rear like on the tail. I remembered it right as I was doing the first fog coat of orange along the fuse sides, GRRR! HB~>
I just have to get the black on the L/E and add a custom made "Super Combat Streak" decal from Emily at Control Line Central and it'll be ready for clear. If all goes well I'll be putting clear on this weekend. o2oP

Looks GREAT Wayne!

In 6th pic from the top, your paint jig bar blends in with all the rolled plans on the floor. Makes it look like your 'Streak is floating in midair. Weird.
Oh, BTW. Terrific job on the plane!!

Thanks Clint, wanna trade for a Tempest? ;D
Tonights progress, got the black on. Jeez I wish I wouldn't have forgotten that fuse stripe! HB~> HB~> HB~>

Ummm... think I'll take a pass on the trade.
Besides, I have a Combat Streak to build too. I gave my original TopFlite kit to Walter so he could make these kits. Arn't they great? #^
COOL! You added the Black. I dig it!

Oh we're not done yet Clint, I've got a great "cherry on top" detail to add yet on it. y1

I just remembered that you're going to put a ST .35 in the nose. SWEET! I soooo want to come up and fly it. 8)

Sparklers on the wingtips?

Nope, no sparklers on the wingtips either Clint. It does have to do with the wing though. S?P VD~ :##
Last night I did go back and add the fuselage stripe that I originally forgot to mask off. I just couldn't handle it, since it's on the original box art photo that I'm copying it would have bugged me forever if it wasn't there. I actually got away with spraying the white right over the orange. I did it with an airbrush so I could spray it on as "dry" as possible. I gave it a bunch of coats so it should be all good to go.
As of tonight it's all sanded and ready for clear. No more pics until it's assembled and RTF. I won't have time to get back on it until Monday night, so later next week if all goes well. ;D

Glad to see you added the fuse stripe. I wasn't going to give you a hard time about it, but I like to see it there. Looking forward to seeing the finished pics and the "surprise". Don't let us down!

Thanks Clint. Better start on that shipping crate for the Tempest. ;D :##

Orange and black - Harley Davidson! Good looking Streak!

For those who haven't caught it, my plan all along with this build has been to do my own replica of the original box art model. I went with orange and black only because that was my own interpretation of the colors used on the original "model" on the old box art label. Also because I didn't want just another red/white/black version, to me it would have looked too much like the ARF.
The "photo" on the label is in black and white, and the only color used on the label I've been using for reference was orange. Since all the 'Streaks in the series were always shown/advertised with the black leading edges, I went with that. That's how I settled on the colors for my version.
I'm going into the shop in just a few minutes here to shoot what will hopefully be the last coat of clear. o2oP

It is turning out to be a very nice looking model! y1 Much more so than most of them back in the day. ;D

That was the plan Bill. ;D
Maybe when I'm all done I'll have to bust the fin off and then epoxy it back on with the excess glue running all over just so it looks "right". :##

I looks great, and that is good. The Combat Streak was never used for combat around here that I know of, but it was used a lot for a "step up" from a profile Flite Streak, so a great deal was not spent on a finish. And, I feel it flies a bit better than the various Flite Streaks I had over the years. Good enough to fly at meets in Classic, IMHO. With the ST .35 Stunt up front, you will have the option of flying in several different "modes". ;D Try a 9-8, leaned out a bit, at least once..... with some 20% nitro (always use at least 20%-25% castor!) ;D
