Title: Film Covering For Diesel Powered Models
Post by: Jim Catevenis on October 19, 2011, 08:17:04 AM
I have read and have been told that model diesel fuel will attack the adhesive that is used on film coverings.  Given the number of diesel engine users in Europe, surely there is a covering product that will withstand the diesel fuel.  Anyone know of a product?

Thanks

Actually any fuel will attack the adhesive on film coverings. The key is not to let the fuel under the covering. This is accomplished by using proper technique when covering with film and fuel proofing any areas where the covering and painted balsa surfaces meet. Any seam where film does not cover film has to be sealed and fuel proofed. Diesel fuel will not attack a film over film seam, not if it is properly sealed. Trim sheets are a whole other matter and one reason I do not use them if at all possible.
