Second wing

This the second wing using the Renger covering system using the wanna be Poly-span material from the fabric store. At a dollar a running yard I had to try it again. The first time I used the material was on the Vagabond. Takes a lot more dope to fill than the true Poly-Span. The clear is a mylar material off the bay that also is lower in price than the SLC covering. I messed up a couple of wing tips, but got most of the wrinkles out. First is applying the Mod Podge to adhere the base covering. Brushed on straight from the bottle. Once the fabric is adhered and shrunk the mylar is applied. Guess I didn't pull it tight enough as I had to gingerly use the hot air gun to get all shrunk down. Then going over it again in the open bays to get it to adhere good to the fabric. Sure saves a lot of time over doping a plane and also the cost. This a fun fly plane so no 20 point finishes needed.

THAT looks like my "workbench", Doc! No, not the first one. I reckon you have it hung on the ingress/exit door. Either that, or you should take the door knob off your building bench...

Yes that is the door to the shop. If the leadouts were done the other shots would have used the door. Also that is not my work bench as it is covered up behind where I sit. You would say I am a slob if you could see the shop in person.

What design is that you're building?

That is a clone of a Guillitine kit that was given me years ago by Dave Trible.

Looks GREAT Doc! What engine you going to put on it?
I'm going to try this technique on one of this year's vintage planes. Jim Vigani has done it and it looks like a natural silkspan finish without all the doping. Binging it to Brodaks? I intend to bring a bunch and get one up per night!

As it is just for fun, it will have an old Fox 40 for power.

The knob makes it easier to move the board.
It's also handy to anchor and backstop things in some cases.

Mod-Podge and Mylar! Cheap, quick, no weather/blushing, odor issues, light weight.
That can't possibly work, I have been assured, by self proclaimed authorities.
Good show, Doc!
