Covering "FASCAL"
« on: September 21, 2020, 02:27:56 PM »
Old Combat / Sport/ Profile carrier guy here.
Guys, getting back into hobby.  In the old days (70's /80's), flew a lot of fast and slow combat (Flite streaks, voodoos, guillotines, spectrums and such) and after going thru the silk / dope routine, settled on FASCAL after Howard Rush exposed it to us in the NYC area.
My roll of this stuff is long gone, but since I am building again, keep thinking how great that material was and would be for sport type profile planes (busters, akromasters, twisters, F51's etc)   (just like the old days).
I have built last four planes using Monokote / Ultracote and unlike most of you, not into the super finishes.
ANYBODY KNOW IF FASCAL can still be purchased and what grade or type would I buy and applicable sources? HOWARD RUSH: YOU OUT THERE?

Steve, Do a search on here for Fascal. Lot of info to be found. Might be able to find what you're looking for.

Thanks, Paul
I did  a search and lots of "mentions" of Fascal, but no details on sources, availability now, etc. etc.
Hopefully HOWARD RUSH will see this.

Steve,
Go to the book of faces  (autocorrect won't allow the actual name)
Get to the Miniature Aircraft Combat Assoc. page
In there I have all the information about getting fascal

Fascal was a product name.  Now it is currently made by Ritrama

I'll repost some information here

The stuff you remember as Fascal is the 1 mil

1 mil is part number 3-7146 (CLEAR POLYESTER, 1-mil OL with #22 clear adhesive and 1.2-mil polyester film liner
They use a 1.2 mil polyester film liner that the covering material is stuck to. Original fascal used a paper liner but the poly is lighter, cheaper, less bulk and is just a carrier so it gets tossed anyway.

To find a supplier just google Ritrama and that part number

Last roll of 1 mil I got from Midwest sign and screen printing
https://www.midwestsign.com/ritrama-3-7146-1-mil-polyester-overlaminate-27-x-750-gloss-clear

I have attached the cut sheet for the 1 mil film to this post
