I have found that most solvent automotive paint systems toners will work with dope.

Back when I was flying free flight a lot, I got a copy of the book of WW-2 rubber powered model plans that Model Builder put out back in the early 80's. In there was an article on buying Floqui railroad paints in colors that match WW-II military colors. Floquil paints back then were lacquer, and if left to sit the pigment would settle pretty quickly. The carrier could be poured off and then the pigment could be added to clear dope. That worked well, but was able to add it to a clear acrylic paint that I could spray on those foam rubber scale model from Bentom, and it didn't bother the foam. I'm not an expert, but I would think pigment would be sort of inert until it is added to type of clear that you want to use it on. I never got any more experience with than what i described.
