Sig thinner and retarder cans
« on: October 09, 2013, 10:59:42 AM »
Two years ago I found two pint cans of Sig thinner at my LHS that someone had ordered and not picked up.  I bought them instantly!  I had them stored inside sealed in two plastic bags.  Yesterday I got them out to find one pint totally empty and the other only half full. I also found my quart of retarder empty.  The labels on the bottom had been discolored by leaking solvent.  Has anyone else had this kind of trouble?  Is there a better way to store this stuff or can it not be stored at all?

It's more likely that the solvent evaporated out past the lids, into the plastic bags, and then condensed onto the labels.

I've never had a container of thinner evaporate like that if it's still closed from the manufacturer.  It seems to happen a lot with cans that I've opened, though, no matter how tightly I replace the caps.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

I had a quart of Sig clear disappear back in '82. In 3 days! Just about the same time my brother was finishing his Veco P51...
