Clear coat for latex paint
« on: February 05, 2025, 03:26:31 PM »
So I am considering painting my p51 scale airplane with latex and clear coating it to make it shiny. Have been practicing on scraps of wood first . Tried minwax polyacrylic and got fisheyes .what can you clean latex with before painting to avoid fisheyes and not dissolve it. I tried rubbing alcohol and it eats into it. Clear coat does not have to be fuel proof as this plane will be electric.

Not sure about latex yet as I am also testing krylon as they have a color that is correct. I would not have to get paint custom mixed. I did a test piece and it looks pretty good and the clear sanded and buffed out pretty good. I can get krylon clear at the habitat store for about 5.00 a can. Still testing. I bet that 2 k clear is expensive and I don't need fuel proof as I am electric. Maybe 2k clear does not have to be sanded and buffed but do you need an expensive spray gun to get it to spray out really good?

You can buy 2k in a spray can for around 20+ bucks.  Once mixed it can be refrigerated for at least a few months to prevent curing. It needs to be warmed prior to reuse or orange peel city. Ask me how I know!
