Title: CASALE'S EYE CANDY FOR TODAY from Kiev 1988
Post by: Shultzie on October 09, 2009, 12:32:05 PM
Jim's Models in those early days...were CLPA COLLECTOR ART at its finest.
First shots from 88's Kiev WC and the last one  is a great study in "blending one color into another...SPECTRUM was truly the perfect HANDLE for the perfection in CLPA models.

Yep, the Speculum was a cool plane. I liked the Columbia a lot.

A Spectrum is around here somewhere.  I think maybe Lee Uberbacher has it.

Howard I think your right, I saw it at Puyallup year before last. my biggest impression, the controls were SO VERY PRECISE ! no friction, and even more so they just felt so connected to the leadouts, it was very cool,,,

Many years ago, Pat Johnston built a Spectrum that we called the Speculum. It flew very well. It's a solid design. I always wanted to build a Spectron Columbia. I just think it's cool looking.

If there is any section on this forum that should have pure eye candy photos, it is the finishing section. Thanks so much Shultzie. #^

Lee has the Specktrum . I asked him to bring it to Puyallup last year where we took these photos. I was setting PW up to crush the plane as a joke.    It was one that Jimmy won with, against him.  ( 20 years later PW tracks down the plane....crushes it ....he can sleep now). It could use a little restoration but its not in bad shape for its age.

That doesn't look like the same Spectrum, and it's not just the paint job that's different.

What's the deal here??? ???

Sorry Clint it is a different Spectrum.  Go read the post before yours.  I went and looked at the pictures and they are two different planes.  Never did get to know Jimmy C., but, watched a few of his practice flights at the NATS.  You going to be at VSC?   Z@@ZZZ
