Butyrate primer vs sanding sealer?
« on: March 19, 2016, 03:38:54 PM »
Does anyone know the difference between Brodak primer and sanding sealer?  Seems to me that they both have a lot of solids (talc?).  Is primer just white dope with talc or zinc stearate added like sanding sealer is clear dope with talc added?  I bought a can of primer to try under lighter colors like yellow so it covers with fewer coats.  Do you need both or can primer be used as sealer too?
It's only paranoia if they aren't really after you.

David,

Even though I don't like using it, I use just simple butrate clear dope to apply silk or silkspan over all the wood or bays, and the same clear to seal the wood after with a few coats depending on how you thin it.

I'm now using a white primer over the sanded clear with great success, but removing as much primer as possible before applying paint.

The white primer is really opeque.
