Butyrate over krylon

Is it ok to brush clear butyrate dope (Randolph) over krylon spray paint from Lowe's?

I doubt it. But you could do a test. To avoid a false negative result, you'd need to let the Krylon cure for a good week at room temperature. I suspect that the solvents in the butyrate will attack and wrinkle up the Krylon (enamel?). One tactic if you have to go this route might be to dust on multiple layers of dope with an airbrush. But if it is prone to attacking the Krylon, the minute you try to flow out one good finish coat is when it turns into "wrinkle finish" and looks like a Kennedy toolbox....

 My assumption is no, I would expect a resultant gooey mess.

Probably not. A friend built a TF Tutor and spray bombed it with Krylon (lacquer) over butyrate clear, which worked, but the Krylon isn't what you'd call "fuel proof". But when he needed repairs, using butyrate clear caused the Krylon to react badly. I suggested that he spray some Krylon into a jar and use that to attach the patches and finish the repair. He said that worked fine. I have heard that Dupli-Color spray bombs work, but test panels are the way to go. You don't want to risk messing up your project as it nears the end.

I prefer to mess up my projects earlier, rather than later.  y1 Steve
