Brodak butyrate dope over SIG butyrate clear dope?
« on: November 06, 2022, 02:48:45 PM »
I'd like to spray a couple of light coats of Brodak butyrate lemon yellow dope over SIG butyrate clear dope applied to a solid wood fuselage (no silkspan applied).
Can this be done without compatibility issues?  Anyone actually put Brodaks butyrate over SIG butyrate clear?

Yeah...Yeah.. I know, don't mix brands...But Paying $30 dollars to have SIG send 4ozs is alot out of my budget...especially since I have the Brodaks stuff....

Do a quick search on here, I'm sure it's been sked about before and you aren't the first one to need to do it. Just going from memory, I don't think there are any real problems with compatibility between the two. Especially if you are using the same thinner on both, which I think would be key here. Put a toot of the SIg clear on a scrap piece of balsa, let it dry over night, sand it a bit to take the fuzz off, then a toot of the Brodak dope. Let the SIG dope dry on the model as long as possible to gas off as much as possible.
  Type at you later,

Dan,
I did do a search and found nothing.

i silked a wing with brodak butyrate clear and it never tighted up enough after 4 or 5 coats so i put sig butyrare clear over it and it tighted up perfectly...i then put brodak crystal clear butyrate over the sig and  had no problem and stayed tight....im pretty sure brodak and sig dope is from randolph anyway

Go for it, I've used Brodak and Sig back an forth countless times with no issues.
