Well, I started covering the Ringmaster Deluxe last night with this stuff Coverlite. One of the things I didn't consider is that you can't overlap it unless you re-coat the edges with Balsarite. Not a big deal so far.
All I can say it, it ain't Monokote. Odd stuff. It shrinks lengthwise pretty well, but not much crossgrain. Have to be careful that it's a bit taunt crossgrain before tacking it down. Blends nicely, though and you can paint it with dope alright (so far it seems to work anyway). We'll see what it looks like in the end.

The Balsarite seems to work fine (though covering one side then having to go over the joint with Balsarite for the overlap is a pain). I have now idea if straight dope would work.
The stuff is quirky. As I noted, it doesn't shrink all that well cross grain. I have a couple of spots that are "iffy". But I'm not willing to strip them and do it again. Hey, it's a profile. But it should be serviceable.

Just a further note. I doubt I'll use this stuff again. Looks kinda cool, but it really flaky. Hope it holds up.

Randy, its not to late to strip it and recover with something more conventional?

It's mostly an appearance issue. The stuff is just flaky. It's will shrink fine in one area then in another just kinda go wonky. I followed the directions pretty closely, but the stuff just isn't very predictable.
It will be a fine 10 foot finish and since there is no appearance judging in profile, I'm just not going to worry about it. At least it's light.

Any thoughts on its puncture resistance compared with silkspan?

Seems to be durable enough. I've just got some weirdness in it. A couple of spots that no amount of shrinking would pull out minor wrinkles and other areas where it would dip slightly and again, would refuse to shrink out. I pulling the stuff pretty smooth before tacking it down. It actually looked better before I shrank it. But it's tight for the most part and seems to be fairly resistant to puncture. Guess we'll see.
Sure wish now I'd just gone with the transparent Red Baron stuff I've got on the shelf. Or gone full boat and done a full dope finish.

I've been doing a running construction thing over on BOTR. Posted a sneak peak there last night. It's awaiting clearcoat then I can put it together.

Most of the light weight coverings that I've tried have had too many shortcomings to continue using them.

I can't go there as I have not got a Ringmaster that I have built. Guess I may have to get started on one tho. H^^
