Spokane Airport
« on: February 14, 2015, 09:10:08 AM »
Courtesy of Plane-A-Day here is a shot of a DC-3 at the terminal.  Don't know if it is coming or going.   Bet the airport don't look the same as I know the planes will look different.

Sorry for the double post of picture.   Too old for this electronic stuff.jeh

In my backyard our airport still looks like that, every day as DC3s and C47s are still in active use daily.  I live at the home base of the Ice Pilots of Buffalo Airways here in Yellowknife.

The Buffalo folks made it to Oshkosh in one of their DC-3's 5 or 6 years ago. They seemed to have been very popular.

We didn't get there in time to see the big gaggle of Gooney Birds. I heard the Buffalo Bird was supposed to be there, but they were gone by the time we got to Oshkosh. Sean Elliott told me the biggest problem they were going to have was finding enough space in one spot to hold them all! I don't know if I have even seen many pictures of the event. Maybe they will do it again on the next big anniversary. I was lucky enough to have gotten a ride in the executive plane for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch back around 1960. My uncle had some connections at Lamber Field and when they were done with the annual inspection around Thanksgiving that year, he arranged for my Dad to take all of us boys to the airport for a ride dureing it's check ride. We lived about a stones throw from Lambert Field (still live with in smelling distance) and really miss the days of the DC-3s, Connies and DC-7s!

Beautiful picture Doc, thanks!  Really captures the era.  What an exciting time to be flying, although the super gee-whiz technologies we have now are pretty cool too.

When was that picture taken Gord?  Late June, early July  #^

I saw the Ice Pilot DC-3 in Oshkosh a couple of years ago.  Mikey was riding a golf cart and almost drove over Joan.  She had her head down and was texting.  Never saw him coming. In true hero fashion, I jumped out of the way to save myself.  No point in both of us being killed.  Besides, someone has to look after the kids...

Well Chris  LL~, you're not far off, probably late April, early May.
Mikey driving anything is "distracted driving" can't comment on the 'distracted walking'.

Enjoyed the brief visit last fall, and saw a recent picture of your '15 model with nice paint on it. Your year will be started well ahead of ours so I will be driving out in March or April.
