Title: YouTube videos
Post by: John Fitzgerald on March 14, 2015, 09:01:36 AM
I saw that the FAA is warning people not to post drone video on YouTube.   I wonder if they will try to apply this to control line videos too?     I have a couple of old ones up.  Should I remove them?

Can you post a link to the FAA warning? I wouldn't delete your C/L videos, in fact, could you post links to those here also!

I could understand drone could be a little intrusive to some when used as a spy tool..  but Control Line are on lines, more like a kite then any R/C stuff out there.. and has no camera on board. I have well over 100+ CL videos on You Tube.. I'm sure You Tube will let us know if they want them removed but I doubt they will.  :)

Google "FAA warning YouTube".  It is on several news sites.  BTW, some of our cl videos are done with camera attached.

I have put a small camera on some of my CL flights...but I see at a pilot point of View more than drone footage as it is just going round and round.
I'll be curious to see how it all shakes out.
There is always Vimeo.

It has to do with him having monetization enabled on his videos. Aka allows ads to run so he gets paid. Not sure how the FAA can use that as some reason to shut him down.

He said in an interview he has never received any payment from YouTube and doesn't intend to.

I do have an RC  POV video or two...but so far no action taken on them. Hard to be stealthy with a fixed wing airplane.

The guy who started the FAA looking into drones can be found by searching Google here " tom zebra drone case " he's been on the Today show and many news channels. He taunted the Police with it and the USAF.

IMHO:

This has nothing to do with recreational/instructional C/L videos.  Shoot 'em, post 'em, we'll enjoy 'em.

It has all to do with someone that's pushing buttons on purpose, and is likely going to end up making it rough on all drone enthusiasts, even those that aren't doing anything confrontational/controversial but instead just enjoying flying drones as a hobby. This guy seems to have an axe to grind and is using drones as a way to create tension.
